The season hasn’t officially started yet, but the women of AUWRFC are already busy working to make it yet another great season! Here’s a peek at what’s going on behind the scenes:
A lot of returning players are already bringing friends who want to play, but the team is still hoping to recruit even more new players.
Info sessions will be Feb. 12-14 to inform potential players on what the game of rugby is all about. Don’t worry if you’ve never played — or never even heard of the game! Ruggers come in all shapes and sizes, and no experience is necessary. Just come with an open mind and get ready for a full-contact, yet fully worthwhile experience.
Details on where and when the info sessions will take place are soon to come.
The team also hosts Rookie Day each season, which will be on Feb. 16. Returning players will introduce rookies to the types of exercises the team does out on the pitch. The first real week of practice will be Feb. 19-21, but potential rookies are welcome to join team workout sessions now.
Each semester, the team is responsible for various fundraising events to help fund the team’s expenses, including travel, equipment, and occasional dinners.
This semester, junior Karri Porter will be the team’s fundraising chair. On the agenda for fundraising this season are:
- Krispy Kreme sales
- Two restaurant fundraisers
- Color Me Mine
Have an idea that will help us raise money? Email Porter at email@example.com.
As they do every year, AUWRFC is putting together an intramural basketball team. The logistics are still being figured out, so check back for updates.
